nose out of joint --  किसी को सताना या परेशान करना (to upset or annoy someone)

Don't put your nose out of joint. I didn't mean anything by what I said. (परेशान मत हो। मेरे कहने का वह मतलब नहीं था।)

follow one's nose -- सीधे आगे बढ़ना/ नाक के सीध में चलना (go straight ahead)

The station is at the end of the road - just follow your nose. (स्टेशन रोड के अंत में है - बस अपनी नाक की सीध में चलो।)

keep one's nose clean --  मुसीबत से बचना या टालना (to avoid trouble)

I'm trying to keep my nose clean by staying away from those rough guys. (मैं अपने आप को उन उग्र लोगों से दूर रख कर अपने को मुसीबत से बचा रहा हूँ।)

keep nose to the grindstone -- कड़ी मेहनत और लगातार काम करना (to work hard and constantly)

Cord

Noun - Cord is a rope (रस्सी), measuring tape (नाप का फीता), or electrical cable (बिजली का तार).

The door had been tied with a nylon cord. (दरवाजा एक नायलॉन की रस्सी से बांधा गया था।)

Be careful not to tangle the phone cord. (सावधान रहो कि फोन की तारों से ना उलझों।)

गले की आंतरिक संरचना (स्वरतन्त्री - anatomical) को भी Cord कहा जाता है।

My vocal cords has been hurt from yelling. (मेरे स्वरतन्त्र चिल्ला का ख्रराब हो गए है।)

Cord का प्रयॊग verb की तरह भी होआ है परंतु यह बहुत असामान्य परिस्थिति में होता है।

As a verb -  रस्सी से बांधना  (to fasten or bind with a cord)

He corded a stack of old newspapers to throw away. (उसने रस्सी से पुराने अखबारों की गठरी को फेंकने के लिए बंधा।)

Chord

Noun - ध्वनि/ स्वर (संगीत के सन्दर्भ में)

I can play a few chords on the guitar. (मैं गिटार पर कुछ स्वर बजा सकता हूँ।)

इसी तरह mathematics, aeronautics, and engineering के सन्दर्भ में Chord - एक सीधी लाइन जो एक curve surface के दोनों points को जोड़े, को कहते हैं।

bang the drum - किसी के समर्थन में बोलना (speak in support of something)

We're banging the drum for children's rights. (हम बच्चों के अधिकारों के समर्थन में बोल रहे हैं।)

drum something in - हमेशा कुछ दोहराते रहना (keep repeating something)

She drummed in the importance of good manners to her children. (वह हमेशा अपने बच्चों को अच्छे संस्कारों के महत्व के विषय में दोहराती रहती थी।)

drum up support / business - समर्थन प्राप्त करने की कोशिश करना और उसे प्राप्त करना/ अतिरिक्त व्यापार पाना  (try and get support / extra business)

They went on TV to drum up support for their new product. (वे अपने नए वस्तु के लिए अतिरिक्त व्यापार लाने के लिए टीवी पर गए।)

play second fiddle - किसी और से पद (रैंक) में कम होना (be lower down in rank than someone else)

He plays second fiddle to the CEO. (वह सीईओ के नीचे वाले पद निभाता है।)

fit as a fiddle -  भला-चंगा (to be fit and healthy)

He plays tennis twice a week – He is as fit as a fiddle. (वह सप्ताह में दो बार टेनिस खेलता है - वह एकदम भला-चंगा है।

trumpet something - जोर शोर से किसी बात प्रसार करना (to broadcast the news loudly)

He keeps trumpeting his promotion. It's a bit annoying. (वह अपनी पदोन्नति का ज़ोर शोर से प्रसार करता रहता है। यह थोड़ा खीझ दिलाता है।)

wet your whistle - कुछ ऐल्कहॉलिक पीना (to drink something (alcoholic))
