भिखारी भीख मांग कर अपनी आजीविका अर्जित करते हैं। भिखारियों को जो कुछ भी दिया जाता है, उन्हें उसे स्वीकार करना होता है। वे दिए गए दान में से चुनने की उम्मीद नहीं कर सकते हैं। दान (भीख) तुच्छ भी हो सकती है और उपयोगी भी। लेकिन जो कुछ भी दिया गया है, भिखारी को बिना शिकायत के स्वीकार करना होता है।
इसी तरह अगर हम दूसरों की दया पर जी रहे हैं या किसी ऐसी नौकरी पर हैं जो बहुत मुश्किल से मिली है, तो हमें सहनशीलता से जो भी difficulties आए, उन्हें सहन करना होगा। अन्यथा हम वह नौकरी खो देंगे। परन्तु अगर हम अच्छी परिस्थिति में है तो हम अपने अनुरूप कार्य कर सकते हैं। The moral of the proverb is, we should understand our own position before taking daring or risky steps. Hasty and haughty actions will bring calamities and sorrow. Even if we are not in a helpless position, it is always good to think twice before we act.
अगर हम किसी सहायता ले रहे हैं या अनुरोध कर रहे है, तो जो भी हमें दिया गया है, उस पर प्रश्न नहीं पूछ सकते।
People with no other options must be content with what is offered. The saying beggars can't be choosers means that people who need something must be satisfied with whatever they get even if it is not exactly what they wanted.
