USED TO एक ऐसा English expression है जिसका हमने आम बोल चाल में काफी बार प्रयोग किया भी है और लोगों को करते सुना भी है, मगर हम में से कुछ अभी भी इस confusion से घिरें हैं कि इसका सही इस्तेमाल कैसे किया जाता है?

PAST REGULARITY
पुरानी आदतें या अतीत में दोहराए जाने वाले कार्य जिन्हें हम वर्तमान में नहीं करते।
(Something that happened regularly in the past but not anymore)

• Before marriage, I used to go out with my friends every weekend.
• विवाह से पहले, मैं हर सप्ताहांत अपने दोस्तों के साथ बाहर घूमने जाता था

• I used to do theatre in my college days.
• मैं अपने कॉलेज के दिनों में थिएटर करता था।

NOTE: Here, always use infinitive form of the verb. ( we used ‘go’ and ‘do’ )

OBSOLETE STATUS
एक तथ्य या एक स्थिति जो अतीत में थी लेकिन अब नहीं है।
(Something that was true in the past but no longer is)

• He used to live in London, but now he lives in New York
• वह पहले London में रहता था लेकिन अब वह New York में रहता है।

• She used to like Sam but now she hates him.
• पहले वह Sam को पसंद करती थी लेकिन अब वह उससे नफरत करती है।

NOTE: Again, use infinitive form of the verb – live, like.

Cache→ गुप्त या दुर्गम स्थान जहाँ एक ही प्रकार की वस्तुओं का संग्रह हो/ छिपाने की जगह / गुप्त भण्डार  
Casino→ एक सार्वजनिक कमरा या इमारत जहां जुआ खेला जाता है  
Cemetery→ एक बड़ा कब्रिस्तान 
Crematorium→ जगह जहां मृत व्यक्ति के शरीर का अंतिम संस्कार किया जाता हो 
Creche→ जहां छोटे बच्चों का दिन भर ध्यान रखा जाए/ पालना घर 
Dormitory→ स्कूल या संस्थान में कई लोगों के लिए एक बड़ा बेडरूम 
Cloakroom→ सार्वजनिक इमारत में एक कमरा या लॉकर जहां कपड़े या सामान छोड़ा जा सकता है 
Convent→ विशेष रूप से नन के लिए एक धार्मिक निवास 

FAUX PAS → फ़ो-पा
Origin: French
Translation: False step (गलत कदम)

BONA FIDE → बोन-अ-फायडी/ फाइडी
Origin: Latin
Translation: With good faith (सदभावना के साथ)

BON VOYAGE → बों-वोयाज 
Origin: French
Translation: Good journey (अच्छी यात्रा)

QUID PRO QUO → क्विड-प्रो-क्वो 
Origin: Latin
Translation: Something for something (किसी चीज़ के बदले कुछ और)

HASTA LA VISTA → आस्ता/हास्ता-ला-वीस्ता
Origin: Spanish
Translation: See you later/until the (next) meeting (बाद में मिलते हैं)

• I've seen many bad movies, but this takes the cake! (मैंने कई बुरी फिल्में देखी हैं, लेकिन यह सबसे बुरी है।)

a piece of cake -- बच्चों का खेल (something that is very easy)
• This test is a piece of cake for me. यह परीक्षा मेरे लिए बच्चों का खेल है।)

the icing on the cake -- सोने पे सुहागा (an additional benefit or positive aspect of something that is already considered positive or beneficial)
• Having all of you here for my birthday is icing on the cake. (मेरे जन्मदिन के लिए आप सभी का यहां होना सोने पे सुहागा है।)

a cakewalk -- बहुत आसान (something that is very easy to do)
• Driving a car is a cakewalk for me. (कार चलाना मेरे लिए बहुत आसान है।)

to go/ sell like hot cakes -- बहुत जल्दी बिकना (to sell very quickly)
• Harry Potter's new book sold like a hot cake. (हैरी पॉटर की नई किताब बहुत जल्दी बिक गई।)
