Number यानि संख्या या अंकों के हमारी daily life में अनगिनत uses होते हैं।
अक्सर हम numbers को किसी प्रकार की mathematical calculation या फिर रूपए पैसों का हिसाब किताब करने लिए प्रयोग करते हैं।
English language में भी numbers का use किया जाता है परन्तु कुछ अलग तरीके से।
आइये सीखते हैं गणित की दुनिया से बाहर आकर, अंग्रेजी बोलते समय numbers का प्रयोग किस तरह किया जाता है।
A BACK NUMBER
किसी भी outdated या अप्रचलित वस्तु को ‘back number’ कहा जाता है।
If you call someone a back number, you mean that they are no longer useful or successful.
इस phrase का अधिकतर प्रयोग कोई भी पुरानी publication जैसे की किताब, अखबार, इत्यादि के सन्दर्भ में किया जाता है।
जिस तरह एक ‘back number newspaper’ यानि पुराना अखबार हमारे कुछ खास काम नहीं आता है, उसी तरह यह phrase किसी भी वस्तु या व्यक्ति की अनुपयोगिता को दर्शाता है।
WHEN DAYS ARE NUMBERED
It simply means that someone or something will not exist for much longer.
परन्तु इसका use दो तरह से किया जा सकता है-
• When someone’s about to die
किसी बीमार व्यक्ति के में होने पर इसका अर्थ है की उस व्यक्ति की बहुत जल्द मृत्यु होना निश्चित है।
• At times, it’s also used humorously to talk about the worst outcomes of someone’s actions that are as serious as being almost dead, but just hypothetically.
यदि आप अपने किसी मित्र के मुसीबत में पड़ने का अनुमान मज़ाकिया तौर से लगाते हैं, तब भी आप इस phrase का use कर सकते हैं।
WHEN SOMEONE’S NUMBER IS UP
Just like the above example, this phrase can also be used to refer someone’s death in the near future.
परन्तु इसका प्रचलित अर्थ किसी अत्यंत गंभीर परेशानी में फंस जाना होता है।
When you know that you are about to get into grave trouble, you can say that your number is up.
SAFETY IN NUMBERS
This one is more like an advice that you can give to someone.
यह एक सलाह की तरह है जो यह सिखाती है कि कुछ particular situations में अकेले होने की बजाय एक group का हिस्सा होने से फायदा रहता है।
Hence, it’s actually an idea that one is less likely to be harmed while in a group than by oneself.
