COLD TURKEY
Meaning: It refers to any abrupt termination of something we are accustomed to.( किसी लम्बे समय की आदत या कार्य को अचानक छोड़ देना)
‘Cold turkey’ का प्रयोग ज़्यादातर तब किया जाता है जब हम किसी प्रकार के नशे की आदत को छोड़ने की बात करते हैं।
यदि एक व्यक्ति अपनी नशे की आदत को धीरे-धीरे बदलने की बजाय अचानक और एकदम से छोड़ दे तो हम उसे कहेंगे ‘to quit cold turkey’
Origin: It is believed that during the process of drug withdrawal, a person’s body gets pale which somehow resembles a cold turkey. So, this phrase is predominantly used for the person who has abruptly quit some kind of drug addiction.
Uses:
- After his father died of lung cancer, David stopped smoking cold turkey.( अपने पिता की lung cancer से मृत्यु होने के बाद, David ने एकदम से smoking की आदत को छोड़ दिया।)
यदि आप एक लम्बे समय से किसी दवा का सेवन करने के आदि हैं और अचानक किन्ही कारणों से उसे लेना बंद कर दें, तब जो symptoms या changes आते हैं, उन्हें भी इस phrase के माध्यम से refer किया जाता है। - I know that it’s necessary but I’m afraid that stopping the medicine altogether may result in cold turkey. ( मै जानता हूँ की यह आवश्यक है लेकिन दवा को अचानक पूरी तरह से बंद करने के दुष्परिणाम हो सकते हैं।)
