boiling hot - बहुत गरम (describes a very hot day)

sunny day - गरम दिन (without clouds (when it is warm and bright))

sweltering - तपता हुआ (extremely hot and uncomfortable)

warm - थोड़ा गरम (a little hot)

a heat wave - गरम हवायें (a period of extremely hot weather)

a sizzler - बहुत ही गरम दिन (a very hot day)

scorching - चिलचिलाता हुआ/ झुलसाने वाला (extremely hot)

जब हम गर्मी के दिनों में घर से बाहर जाते हैं तो इन instructions को follow करते हैं-

Rub some sunscreen on our skin or else it will burn. (त्वचा पर कुछ सनस्क्रीन लगाओ वरना यह जल जाएगी।)

Cover up yourself properly else your skin will become tan. (अपने आप को अच्छी तरह से ढकें वरना यह धूप से झुलस जाएगी।)

Stay out of the sun; move into the shade. (धूप से दूर रहें; छाया में चले जाएं।)

Drink a lot of water before going out. (बाहर जाने से पहले बहुत सारा पानी पीएं।)

It’s scorching weather! (यह जलानेवाला मौसम है!)

I’m boiling! (मैं उबल रहा हूँ!)

It’s sticky weather. (यह चिपचिपा मौसम है।)

This room is like an oven today! (यह कमरा आज एक ओवन की तरह है!)

कुछ वाक्य जो गर्मी की भीषणता को व्यक्त करते हैं पर ये सिर्फ एक अतिशयोक्ति (Hyperbole में कथन को बढ़ा-चड़ा कर जोरदार बना देते हैं) होते हैं। जैसे -

It’s so hot you can fry an egg on the stone! (इतनी ज्यादा गर्मी है कि आप पत्थर पर अंडे भून सकते हैं!)

The sun is splitting the stones! (सूरज की किरणें इतनी तेज़ हैं कि पत्थर को भी तोड़ दें।)

Verbs followed only by Infinitives

intend - We intend to meet you next weekend. (हम अगले सप्ताह के अंत में आपसे मिलने का विचार कर रहे हैं।)

[Wrong: intend meeting]

learn - I learned to speak Kannada when I was a kid. (मैं जब बच्चा था तब मैंने कन्नड़ में बात करना सीखा।)

[Wrong: learned speaking]

manage - He managed to open the door without the key. (वह चाबी के बिना दरवाजा खोलने में कामयाब रहा।)

[Wrong: managed opening]

offer - My uncle offered to drive us to the supermarket. (मेरे चाचा ने हमें सुपरमार्केट ले जाने की पेशकश की।)

[Wrong: offered driving]

plan - We plan to go to Europe this summer. (हम इस गर्मी में यूरोप जाने की योजना बना रहे हैं।)

[Wrong: plan going]

prepare - They prepared to give the test. (वे परीक्षा देने के लिए तैयार थे।)

[Wrong: prepared giving]

pretend - The culprit pretended to be innocent. (अपराधी निर्दोष होने का नाटक करता था।)

[Wrong: pretended being ]

promise - She promised to take us with her next time. (उसने हमें अगली बार अपने साथ ले जाने का वादा किया।)

[Wrong: promised taking]

Back away -- पीछे हटना (to move backwards, in fear or dislike)

She saw that he had a gun and she backed away. (उसने देखा कि उसके पास बंदूक थी और वह पीछे हट गई।)

Back away (from something) -- समर्थन रोक देना (to stop supporting something)

The government has backed away from plans to increase taxes. (सरकार ने करों में बढ़ोतरी के लिए योजनाओं का समर्थन नहीं किया है।)

Back down -- पीछे हटना (To withdraw, concede defeat)

She backed down on her demands. (वह अपनी मांगों से पीछे हट गई।)

Back up --  समर्थन देना/ सहायता देना (to give support or encouragement)

I immediately got a security force as back up. (मुझे तुरंत सुरक्षा बल के रूप में सहायता मिली।)

Back (something) up -- बैक-अप लेना (to make a copy of file, program, etc.)

You should back up all your computer files in a secure location. (आपको एक सुरक्षित स्थान पर अपनी सभी कंप्यूटर फ़ाइलों का बैकअप लेना चाहिए।)

Bank on --  भरोसा करना (to base your hopes on something / someone)

I’m banking on you to help with the charity event. (मैं चैरिटी इवेंट के साथ मदद करने के लिए आप पर भरोसा कर रहा हूं।)

Black out -- बेहोश हो जाना (to faint, lose consciousness)

I blacked out right after the accident. (दुर्घटना के ठीक बाद मैं बेहोश हो गई।)

Black out something -- अंधकार में कर देना (to stop delivering or receiving electricity)

The power failure blacked out all of northern part of Delhi. (बिजली की खराबी ने दिल्ली के सभी उत्तरी हिस्से को अन्धकार में कर दिया।)

Black out something -- प्रसारित करने से रोकना/ ढक देना (to keep from being broadcast or printed)

All news channels blacked out news of the communal riots. (सभी समाचार चैनलों ने सांप्रदायिक दंगों की खबरों को प्रसारित करने से रोक दिया।)
