Common verbs that can only be followed by the “-ing form”, not the “to infinitive”

Finish: Please finish cleaning the floor before going out. (बाहर जाने से पहले फ़र्श की सफाई खत्म कर दें।)

[Wrong: to clean]

Risk: Don’t risk losing your job! (अपनी नौकरी खोने का जोखिम मत करो!)

[Wrong: to lose]

Imagine: I can’t imagine living without you. (मैं आपके बिना जीवित रहने की कल्पना नहीं कर सकता)

[Wrong: to live]

Help: He can't help talking so loudly. (वह इतना जोर से बात करने से अपने आप को नहीं रोक सकता।)

[Wrong: to talk]

Fancy: Do you fancy going to the movie with us tonight? (क्या आप आज रात हमारे साथ फिल्म जाना पसंद करेंगे?)

[Wrong: to go]

Practice: I practice singing daily. (मैं हर रोज़ गायन अभ्यास करता हूँ।)

[Wrong: to sing]

Recommend: I recommend practicing the song daily. (मैं गीत का रोज़ाना अभ्यास करने की सलाह देती हूँ।

Prefix (उपसर्ग) anti- की उत्पत्ति ग्रीक शब्द से हुई है जिसका अर्थ against (विरुद्ध) या opposite (विपरीत) होता है। जैसे -

anti → opposite/ against

Antidote → remedy given ‘against’ a poison (विष नाशक)

Antithesis →  exact opposite (विपरीत)

Antipathy →  a feeling of intense dislike (सहज-विरोधी)

Antibiotic → drug given ‘against’ the life-form bacteria which has invaded a body (प्रतिजैविक)

Antifreeze → a liquid used ‘against’ the freezing of cars’ engines (हिमनिरोधी)

Antisocial → of going ‘against’ being social (असामाजिक)

Anticlimax → a disappointing decline after a previous rise (दुखान्त)

Antiseptic → thoroughly clean and free of disease-causing organisms (रोगाणु रोधक)

Antihero → a protagonist who does not act brave or morally good (एन्टीहिरो)

Anti-inflammatory →  a medicine intended to reduce swelling (प्रज्वलनरोधी)
