‘Little’ और ‘few’ दोनों ही quantifiers यानी ‘प्रमाणक शब्द’ हैं जो हमे मात्रा या संख्या के बारे में बताते हैं। इन दोनों का अर्थ किसी प्रकार की कमी या अभाव से जुड़ा है।

LITTLE
(It’s used only for uncountable nouns.)
किसी भी अगणनीय संघ्या की मात्रा में कमी के बारे में बताने के लिए हमेशा ‘little’ का प्रयोग करना चाहिए।

• There is little milk left in the bottle. (बोतल में थोड़ा दूध बचा हुआ है।)
milk = uncountable noun

FEW
(Used with plural countable nouns only)
किसी भी गणनीय संघ्या की संख्या में कमी को दर्शाने के लिए ‘few’ का use करना उचित है।

• There are few mistakes in your article. (आपके लेख में कुछ गलतियां हैं।)
mistakes = plural and countable noun

HEART IN YOUR MOUTH

Meaning: To feel extremely nervous, anxious or frightened.(अत्यंत उत्सुकता या डर की अनुभूति होना)

जब भी आप किसी ऐसी situation में हैं कि excitement के कारण आपका दिल ज़ोर ज़ोर से धड़क रहा हो, तब आप अपनी स्थिति का बयान इस phrase के through कर सकते हैं।
It can also be used in a situation when you are trembling with fear.

Usage:
• My heart was in my mouth when the name of the winner was going to be announced.(मैं उस समय बहुत घबराई हुई थी जब विजेता का नाम घोषित होने वाला था।)

• I opened the door with my heart in my mouth.(मैंने बहुत डरते हुए दरवाज़ा खोला।)

• My heart was in my mouth as I walked onto the stage.(मंच पर जाते समय मैं डर के मारे कांप रहा था।)

To denote a person’s NATURE:

SAMARITAN (समैरिटन) - जरूरतमंद की सहायता करने वाला

SADIST (सेडिस्ट) - जिसे दूसरों को पीड़ा पहुंचा कर ख़ुशी मिलती है

GOURMAND (गुर्मन्ड)  - खाने का बेहद शौक़ीन व्यक्ति

NARCISSIST (नार्सिसिस्ट) - खुद से ही प्यार व आत्मपूजा करने वाला

NOVICE (नोविस)- किसी क्षेत्र में अनुभवहीन या नया व्यक्ति

ALTRUIST (ऐल्ट्रूइस्ट)- परोपकार के सिद्धांत का पालन करने वाला

CYNIC (सिनिक) - दूसरों की अच्छाई की निंदा करने वाला

CHAUVINIST (शोविनिस्ट) - एक विशेष समूह या कारण का अत्यधिक समर्थन करने वाला

Booze(शराब पीना) = from busen (to drink in excess)

Cookie (कुकी) = from koekie (biscuit)

Cruise(समुद्र-पर्यटन) = from kruisen (to cross or to sail to and fro)

SEND FOR (To call or summon) → किसी को बुलाना या हाज़िर होने का ऑर्डर देना
• Send for an ambulance quickly.
(जल्दी से एक एम्बुलेंस को बुलाओ)

STAND FOR (To represent or symbolise) → किसी प्रकार प्रतीक या चिन्ह होना
• The five rings on the Olympic flag stand for the five continents.
(ओलंपिक ध्वज पर मौजूद पांच रिंग पांच महाद्वीपों का प्रतीक हैं।)

STAND UP FOR (To defend or support) → रक्षा/बचाव करना या पक्ष लेना
• It's our moral duty to stand up for the rights of the poor.
(ग़रीबों के अधिकारों का बचाव करना हमारा नैतिक कर्तव्य है)

DO FOR (To serve the purpose) → उद्देश्य के लिए उपयुक्त होना
• These books will do for your exam preparation.
(ये किताबें तुम्हारी परीक्षा की तैयारी के लिए उपयुक्त रहेंगी)

TAKE FOR (To wrongly presume or suppose) → गलत अनुमान लगाना या गलत समझ लेना
• I took him for a generous man but he turned out to be selfish.
(मैंने उसे एक उदार आदमी समझ लिया लेकिन वह तो स्वार्थी निकला)

MAKE UP FOR (To compensate) → क्षतिपूर्ति करना/ पूर्ति करना
• I have to do overtime to make up for all the work that I missed.
(मुझे अपने छूटे हुए काम की पूर्ति करने के लिए ओवर टाइम करना पड़ेगा)

CUT OUT FOR (suitable) → उचित/उपयुक्त
• She is a cut out for this job.
(वह इस नौकरी के लिए उपयुक्त है)
