Meaning: Different people suited for different purposes ( अलग अलग उद्देश्यों के अनुकूल अलग लोग )
इस phrase का प्रयोग यह दर्शाने के लिए किया जाता है कि अलग-अलग कार्यों को करने के लिए suitable लोगों का चुनाव करना आवश्यक है ।

Usage: I think you should hire an experienced professional rather than a fresher for this important project. After all, it’s horses for courses. (मुझे लगता है कि आपको इस महत्वपूर्ण परियोजना के लिए एक नए कर्मचारी के बजाय एक अनुभवी पेशेवर को रखना चाहिए। आखिर कार, ख़ास काम के लिए निपुण व्यक्ति ही ठीक रहता है।)

ACCEPT and EXCEPT are  examples of ‘Homophones’

जब किन्हीं दो या दो से ज़्यादा शब्दों का उच्चारण एक सामान लगे तब उन्हें होमोफोन्स कहा जाता है।

ACCEPT
Meaning: स्वीकार/कबूल करना, किसी काम को करने के लिए हाँ करना या मान लेना
यदि आप किसी के द्वारा दी गयी चीज़ को स्वीकारते हैं, तब आप कह सकते हैं की आपने उसे accept किया।
• I accept your apologies.(मैं आपकी क्षमायाचना स्वीकार करता हूं।)
• I cannot accept this expensive gift.( मैं इस महंगे उपहार को स्वीकार नहीं कर सकता।)

EXCEPT
Meaning:  छोड़ना, शामिल न करना, अलावा
जब आप किसी वस्तु को छोड़ कर बात करते हैं तब ‘Except’ शब्द का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
• Everybody passed the class except Sam.(Sam को छोड़कर सभी ने कक्षा पास कर ली।)
• I exercise every day except for the Sundays.(मै रविवार के अलावा हर दिन व्यायाम करता हूँ।)

‘Put down’ is a phrasal verb that can be used in following contexts:

Record something in writing (लिखित में कुछ रिकॉर्ड करना)
• I always put down important things in my diary.(मैं महत्वपूर्ण चीजें हमेशा अपनी डायरी में लिख लेता हूँ )

Land an aircraft (एक वायु-यान को ज़मीन पर उतारना)
• Despite the heavy rainfall, the pilot put the plane down safely. (भारी वर्षा के बावजूद, पायलट ने विमान को सुरक्षित रूप से ज़मीन पर उतारा)

Suppress or end a rebellion or quarrel by force (बल का प्रयोग कर किसी विद्रोह या झगड़ा को दबाना या समाप्त करना)
• The police used lathi-charge to put down the protest. (पुलिस ने विरोध प्रदर्शन को बंद करने के लिए लाठीचार्ज का इस्तेमाल किया।)

Pay a specified sum of money as a deposit (एक निर्धारित धनराशि जमा कराना एक निर्धारित धनराशि जमा कराना)
• I can put down 40% of the price and will pay the rest in instalments.(मैं कीमत का 40% जमा करा सकता हूँ और शेष भुगतान किश्तों में कर दूंगा।)

Criticise or humiliate someone publicly (सार्वजनिक रूप से किसी को अपमानित करना)
• He always tries to put me down.(वह हमेशा मुझे नीचा दिखाने की कोशिश करता है)

Euthanise an old, ill, or dangerous animal (किसी बूढ़े, बीमार, या खतरनाक जानवर को इच्छामृत्यु देना)
• The horse was put down as it was suffering from a serious injury.(गंभीर चोट से पीड़ित होने के कारण घोड़े की इच्छामृत्यु कर दी गयी।)
