जब किसी भी ‘preposition’ या ‘adverb’ को ‘verbs’ के साथ combine करके प्रयोग किया जाता है तो उन्हें ‘PHRASAL VERBS’ कहा जाता है।
They denote an idiomatic meaning but only when taken together as a whole.
हमेशा ध्यान रखें की phrasal verbs में इस्तेमाल हुए verbs, prepositions या adverbs का individually अलग-अलग अर्थ हो सकता है।

Let’s learn some phrasal verbs with the preposition ‘FOR’

LOOK FOR (To search) → ढूंढ़ना
I am looking for my lost keys. (मैं अपनी खोई हुई चाबियां तलाश कर रहा हूं)
I'm looking for a suitable partner. (मैं एक उपयुक्त साथी की तलाश कर रहा हूँ)

PAY FOR(to be punished for doing something bad) → बुरे कर्म के दंड का भुगतान करना
He should pay for bullying other children. (दूसरे बच्चों पर धौंस जमाने के लिए उसे दण्डित किया जाना चाहिए )

TAKE OUT FOR(To pay for someone's outing) → किसी दूसरे को अपने खर्चे पर बाहर ले जाना
My grandparents took us out for a movie.(मेरे दादा दादी हमें एक फिल्म दिखाने के लिए बाहर ले गए)

CALL FOR(to show requirement or necessity) →  आवश्यकता/ ज़रुरत दर्शाने के लिए
This job calls for creative people. (इस नौकरी में रचनात्मक लोगों की आवश्यकता है)

PASS FOR(to be accepted as someone that is not true) →  किसी के रूप में स्वीकार किया जाना जो कि सत्य नहीं हो
They thought that this copy would pass for the original painting. (उन्होंने सोचा कि यह नक़ल असली पेंटिंग के रूप में स्वीकार हो जाएगी)

Like a kid in a candy store – To be so excited about one's surroundings that one acts in a childlike or silly way (बहुत ज्यादा -बच्चे की तरह -उत्साहित होना)

You should have seen him when they arrived. He was like a kid in a candy store. (आपको उसे देखा जाना चाहिए था जब वे पहुंचे। वह बच्चे की तरह उत्साहित था।)

Mummy’s boy - (an insulting word) a man who is still very dependent on his mother (माँ का बेटा/ माँ पर आश्रित)

Salman needs to grow up. He’s such a mummy’s boy! (सलमान को बड़ा होना चाहिए। वह माँ पर आश्रित है!)

New kid on the block - someone who is new in a place or organization and has many things to learn about it (किसी जगह या संस्थान में आया हुआ नया व्यक्ति जिसे बहुत कुछ पता ना हो।)

I was the new kid on the block in this job so I was determined to prove myself. (मैं इस काम में नया आया था इसलिए मैं खुद को साबित करने के लिए दृढ़ संकल्प था।)

Sleep like a baby - to experience a very deep and restful sleep; to sleep soundly (बहुत अच्छे से सोना)

Yesterday I slept like a baby. I didn't hear the alarm also. (कल मैं बहुत अच्छे से सोया। मैंने अलार्म भी नहीं सुना।)

Throw the baby out with the bathwater - to lose valuable ideas or things in your attempt to get rid of what is not wanted (कूड़े करकट के साथ काम की वस्तु को फेंक देना)

Most of his ideas were terrible except for one, so let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.  (उसके अधिकांश विचार बेकार थे एक के अलावा, इसलिए हमें कूड़े करकट के साथ उसे भी नहीं फेंकना चाहिए।)

(To) CRY FOR THE MOON

Meaning: To wish for something impossible to happen or make an impractical or unreasonable demand.(कोई अनुचित मांग करना या कुछ असंभव के होने की इच्छा करना)

USES:

• Demanding an iPhone at the age of 10 is just a cry for the moon.
  (10 साल की उम्र में एक आईफोन की मांग करना अनुचित है।)
• The employees’ demand for a raise in their salary for the first time in 5 years is not a cry for the moon.
  (5 वर्षों में पहली बार अपने वेतन में वृद्धि के लिए कर्मचारियों की मांग अनुचित नहीं है।)
