COUNTDOWN
Countdown का अर्थ होता है zero तक उलटी गिनती करना।

The countdown to the new year has begun.(नए साल के लिए उलटी गिनती शुरू हो गई है।)
मध्यरात्रि पर नए साल की शुरुआत से पहले के कुछ seconds की उलटी गिनती करने को ही new year का countdown कहा जाता है।

RESOLUTION
Resolution का अर्थ है ऐसे संकल्प या goals and achievements जिन्हे आप आने वाले साल यानि future में पूरा करने का निश्चय करते हैं।

My new year resolution is to spend more time with my family.(मेरे नए साल का यह संकल्प है की मैं अपने परिवार के साथ अधिक समय बिताऊंगा।)

TO RING IN THE NEW YEAR
इस phrase का use यह बताने के लिए किया जाता है कि आपने नए साल को मनाने के लिए क्या plans बनाए हैं यानी आप किस तरह नए साल में प्रवेश करेंगे।

We have decided to ring in the new year with a huge celebration. (हमने एक विशाल पार्टी के साथ नए साल में प्रवेश करने का फैसला किया है।)

नया साल बस आने को है, जिसका अर्थ है कि दुनिया भर में लोगों ने इसके स्वागत में जश्न मनाने की तैयारी कर ली होगी।
New year की सबसे ख़ास बात यह है कि यह किसी एक जाती या धर्म समुदाय, या फिर किसी एक देश द्वारा मनाए जाना वाला त्यौहार नहीं है, बल्कि सम्पूर्ण जगत के लोग इसे एक साथ मिलकर मनाते हैं।
नव वर्ष के आस पास जब हम लोगों से मिलते हैं तो कुछ ऐसे words या phrases हैं जिनका हम बहुत ज़्यादा use करते हैं या औरों को use करते सुनते हैं।
आइये जानते हैं ऐसे ही एक holiday phrase- 'tis the season के बारे में:

TIS THE SEASON

यह सबसे ज़्यादा confusing और common holiday season phrase है।
'tis the season comes from a Christmas carol (ऐसा तराना या गीत जिसे Christmas के मौके पर गया जाता है)

इस phrase के तीनो शब्दों में से लोगों को सबसे ज़्यादा confuse करने वाला शब्द है : 'TIS
असल में  'tis शब्द एक contraction है यानि इसे दो शब्दों को जोड़कर बनाया गया है और वो दो शब्द हैं : it+is
यही कारण है 'tis शब्द में एक apostrophe का use करने का, जो यह दर्शाता है की यहाँ एक alphabet यानि IT में से 'I' को omit किया जा रहा है। 

अगर आप सोच रहे हैं कि it is को जोड़कर it's बनता है, तो आप बिलकुल सही हैं। लेकिन इसका मतलब यह नहीं है की it is को 'tis की form में लिखना गलत है। 

Actually, 'tis एक proclitic है यानी एक ऐसा शब्द जिसे उसकी pronunciation से मिलता जुलता ही लिख दिया जाता है।  
We can say that 'tis is actually a phonetic way to spell it is.
अगर आप ध्यान दें (और खुद casually बोलकर देखें) तो it is और 'tis का उच्चारण सुनने में आपको almost एक जैसा ही लगेगा।

When we don’t take time to enunciate the two separate words, in this case - it and is, we get a word like ’tis that just sort of rolls off the tongue.
जब हम बिना enunciate किये, flow में कुछ बोलते हैं तो अक्सर दो शब्दों को जोड़कर एक नया ही शब्द खुद-ब-खुद मुँह से बहार निकल आता है जिसे हम proclitic कहते हैं।

Proclitic words का एक बहुत ही common example है: Y'all = you + all

क्यूंकि 'tis the season का use Christmas या नव वर्ष के पर्व के आस पास होता है, आप इसे कुछ इस तरह बोल सकते हैं: 
(इसका actual translation है: यह मौसम है)

'tis the season to be jolly 
'tis the season to be merry

इन दोनों का ही अर्थ है : यह मौसम है खुश होने का या खुशियाँ मनाने का 

आप अपनी imagination और creativity के according 'tis the season के आगे कुछ भी ऐसा जोड़ सकते हैं जो आपके हिसाब से new year के समय करना या होना चाहिए।

AN OLD PERSISTENT HABIT
लंबे समय से किसी कार्य को करने के या किसी अनुभव के आदी होना।
(Things we are familiar with or things that we have a habit of doing since a long time)

• I’m used to sleeping late on the Sundays.
• मुझे रविवार के दिन देर तक सोने की आदत है।

NOTE: use ‘ing’ form of the verb.( Here we used ‘studying = study+ing‘ and ‘sleeping = sleep +ing’ )

A NEWLY FORMED (PRESENT) HABIT
एक असामान्य स्थिति के आदी हो जाना या नई आदत बन जाना।
(To get accustomed to an unusual situation or to make a new habit)

• I am used to London’s cold weather now.
• मुझे अब London के ठन्डे मौसम की आदत पड़ चुकी है।

NOTE: Always use an ‘auxiliary verb‘ with the subject = He is, I am, They are, She has, They have, etc.

FUTURE HABIT POSSIBILITY
जब संभावना हो कि आप वक़्त के साथ किसी unusual व नई स्थिति के अनुसार ढल जाएंगे या कोई ऐसी आदत बना लेंगे जो पहले नहीं थी।
(The possibility of adapting to a situation or a habit in near future)

• You should drink alcohol in moderation or else you will get used to it.
• आपको कम मात्रा में शराब पीनी चाहिए वरना आपको इसकी आदत पड़ जाएगी।

NOTE: Future possibility = will get + used to

USED TO एक ऐसा English expression है जिसका हमने आम बोल चाल में काफी बार प्रयोग किया भी है और लोगों को करते सुना भी है, मगर हम में से कुछ अभी भी इस confusion से घिरें हैं कि इसका सही इस्तेमाल कैसे किया जाता है?

PAST REGULARITY
पुरानी आदतें या अतीत में दोहराए जाने वाले कार्य जिन्हें हम वर्तमान में नहीं करते।
(Something that happened regularly in the past but not anymore)

• Before marriage, I used to go out with my friends every weekend.
• विवाह से पहले, मैं हर सप्ताहांत अपने दोस्तों के साथ बाहर घूमने जाता था

• I used to do theatre in my college days.
• मैं अपने कॉलेज के दिनों में थिएटर करता था।

NOTE: Here, always use infinitive form of the verb. ( we used ‘go’ and ‘do’ )

OBSOLETE STATUS
एक तथ्य या एक स्थिति जो अतीत में थी लेकिन अब नहीं है।
(Something that was true in the past but no longer is)

• He used to live in London, but now he lives in New York
• वह पहले London में रहता था लेकिन अब वह New York में रहता है।

• She used to like Sam but now she hates him.
• पहले वह Sam को पसंद करती थी लेकिन अब वह उससे नफरत करती है।

NOTE: Again, use infinitive form of the verb – live, like.
