Confusion is a situation in which people do not understand what is happening, what they should do or who someone or something is
चाहे कोई नया experience हो या किसी पुरानी चीज़ में आया हुआ बदलाव हो, anything can cause confusion.
यूँ तो confused होना एक बहुत ही common feeling है पर इस feeling की intensity अलग-अलग situations में different हो सकती है:

PERPLEXED - हैरान
Used when one simply cannot understand or make sense of something

BAFFLED - चकराया हुआ/ चकित
Used when a confusion surprises you quite intensely and you just can’t figure out what’s going on.

BEWILDERED - हक्का बक्का/ घबराया हुआ
At times, inability to understand something might lead to an intense form of confusion where one might feel frightened and that’s when we use this term

DAZED - स्तब्ध/ चौंधिया जाना
Used when someone is in a state of mental numbness especially as resulting from shock or bad news.

DISORIENTED - गुमराह
When confusion leads to a state where one might lose one’s sense of direction where to go or what to do.

FRUGAL or ECONOMICAL

यूँ तो frugal और economical, दोनों ही शब्द कम पैसा खर्च करने की quality यानी मितव्ययता को दर्शाते हैं परन्तु दोनों की connotation अलग-अलग है। 

Frugal infers that someone is not generous and is very stingy with their money whereas in the matters of money, being economical is considered a good.

कह सकते हैं की यदि आप किसी को कंजूस दर्शाना चाहते हैं तो उसके लिए frugal का use करें और यदि आप किसी की फ़िज़ूलख़र्ची से परे, सादा जीवनशैली की प्रशंसा करना चाहते हैं तो उसे economical कहना उचित रहेगा। 

CONFIDENT or PROUD

It is said that there is a thin line between confidence and overconfidence and that thin line is CONNOTATION.
अपनी क्षमताओं पर आत्मविश्वास यानी confidence होना एक बेहतरीन quality है जबकि अपनी खूबियों पर किसी भी प्रकार का घमंड यानी proud होना एक बहुत ही negative trait माना जाता है। 

CHILDISH or YOUTHFUL

Childish और Youthful दोनों ही शब्द कम उम्र की ओर इशारा करते हैं लेकिन दोनों के मायने बिलकुल अलग हैं। 
यदि आप किसी जवान यानी adult व्यक्ति को youthful कहते हैं तो उसका तात्पर्य यह होगा कि आप उसके nature की जीवंतता की तारीफ कर रहे हैं।
दूसरी ओर, किसी जवान या बचपने से आगे बढ़ चुके व्यक्ति को childish कहना उसके लिए प्रशंसा नहीं बल्कि उसका अवगुण है क्यूंकि एक तरह से childish कहकर उसे immature व नासमझ कहा जा रहा है।

Sometimes, एक शब्द को किसी particular भाव को दर्शाने के लिए इतना use किया जाता है कि उसके साथ वह भाव यानी feeling जुड़ जाती है, जिसे हम connotation का नाम दे देते हैं।
हम इस तरह भी कह सकते हैं की connotations की मदद से आपको किसी भी शब्द का suggestive यानी सांकेतिक अर्थ समझने में आसानी होती है और आपका ज्ञान केवल शब्द के literal meaning तक ही सीमित नहीं रहता है।

CUNNING or SMART
यह दोनों ही शब्द एक तरह से तेज़ दिमाग की quality को दर्शाते हैं।
But then, यदि आप किसी को cunning कहते हैं तो इससे यह समझ आता है की वह शख्स अपने तेज़ दिमाग का प्रयोग चालाकी व दूसरों का नुकसान और अपना फायदा करने के लिए करता है, वहीं दूसरी और किसी कोsmart कहने का अर्थ है की वह व्यक्ति समझदार है।

SKINNY or SVELTE
Skinny शब्द का अर्थ है बहुत ही दुबला-पतला या फिर कमज़ोर और Svelte का अर्थ है सुडौल व कोमल।
Thus, the former has a negative connotation while the latter is a positive word.

EXOTIC or ECCENTRIC
इन दोनों ही शब्दों का  basic meaning होता है – something unusual.
But again, there is a positive and a negative way to be unusual.
Exotic यानी अनोखा होना एक positive quality है जबकि eccentric यानी विचित्र होना is not that positive.

Cause someone to be depressed
• This movie always gets me down. (यह फिल्म हमेशा मुझे निराश करती है।)

Concentrate attention towards one particular task
• It’s time I got down to some serious work. (अब समय है कि मैं गंभीरता से काम करूँ।)

Reach end point of dealing with something
• We have got down to these final results. (हम इन अंतिम परिणामों पर पहुंचे हैं।)
