COLD TURKEY
Meaning: किसी पुरानी आदत को अचानक पूरी तरह से छोड़ देना।
• After his father died of lung cancer, David stopped smoking cold turkey.
(अपने पिता की फेफड़ों के कैंसर से मृत्यु होने के बाद, David ने एकदम से धूम्रपान की आदत को अचानक छोड़ दिया।)

TO GET KNOCKED OUT COLD
Meaning: अचानक बेहोश हो जाना।
• Sam drank a bit too much on his 21st birthday and got knocked out cold during the party.
(Sam ने अपने 21वें जन्मदिन पर थोड़ी ज़्यादा शराब पी ली और पार्टी के दौरान ही बेहोश हो गया।)

TO MAKE SOMEBODY’S BLOOD RUN COLD
Meaning: किसी को डराना या भयभीत करदेना।
• Nancy’s blood ran cold when she realized that someone was following her on the street.
(Nancy बहुत डर गयी जब उसे एहसास हुआ कि सड़क पर कोई उसका पीछा कर रहा है।)

TO THROW COLD WATER ON SOMETHING
Meaning: किसी काम पर पानी फेर देना = किसी को कोई ऐसा काम करने से रोकना या हतोत्साहित करना जिसके लिए वे बहुत उत्साहित थे।
• The proposal seemed reasonable enough, but authorities quickly threw cold water on it.
(यह प्रस्ताव काफी उचित था, लेकिन अधिकारियों ने इस पर पानी फेर दिया।)
