(To be) AT LOGGERHEADS

Meaning: To be in a conflict, a violent dispute or strong disagreement with someone
किसी के साथ गहन असहमति जताना या किसी विशेष बात पर कलह या विवाद करने व अड़ जाने की स्थिति को ही ‘at loggerheads’ कहा जाता है।

Simply put, If two people or groups are at loggerheads, they disagree strongly about something which, most of the times, leads to an impasse or deadlock.
यह स्थिति अक्सर दो parties के बीच तब पैदा होती है जब दोनो ही तरफ से दुसरे की बात को न मान कर अपनी बात पर अडिग रहा जाता है, जिसके कारण नतीजे पर पहुँच पाना असंभव हो जाता है।

Uses:
• The opposition party is at the loggerheads with the ruling government over the new bill. (विपक्षी दल नए बिल को लेकर सत्तारुढ़ सरकार के साथ विवाद में है।)

• Sam is at loggerheads with his mother on the matter of reducing his expenses. (Samअपने खर्चों को कम करने की बात को लेकर अपनी मां के साथ बेहद असहमत है।)

EAT LIKE A HORSE
Meaning: To eat a lot (बहुत ज़्यादा मात्रा में खाना)
• He was so hungry that he ate like a horse in the party.(उसे इतनी ज़्यादा भूख लगी थी कि उसने पार्टी में बहुत सारा भोजन खाया।)

EAT LIKE A BIRD
Meaning: To eat very little quantity of food (बहुत ही कम मात्रा में खाना)
• You can never gain healthy weight if you keep eating like a bird. (यदि आप चिड़िआ की तरह भोजन करते रहेंगे तो कभी भी स्वस्थ वजन प्राप्त नहीं कर सकेंगे।)

TO PICK AT ONE’S FOOD
Meaning: to eat only a small amount of your food, showing no interest or enjoyment while you eat it (बेमन होकर किसी प्रकार के खाने को बहुत ही कम मात्रा या ना के बराबर खाना )
• Sam got a scolding from his mother for picking at his food. (सैम अपने भोजन ठीक से न खाने पर माँ से डाँट पड़ी।)

WORK UP AN APPETITE
Meaning: To do something that makes you hungry (अपनी भूख  को बढ़ाने के लिए या भूख बढ़ाने वाला कोई काम करना )
• Exercising in the gym works up my appetite.(जिम में व्यायाम करने से मेरी भूख बढ़ जाती है।)
