Chair जिसे हम हिंदी में कुर्सी बोलते हैं, घर या office की एक सामान्य वस्तु है। इसके बिना कही बैठने की परिकल्पना करना ही मुश्किल है। पर ये कुर्सियां भी अपने उपयोगों के आधार पर अलग अलग नामों से जानी जाती है। जैसे -

armchair (हत्थेदार कुर्सी/ आरामकुर्सी/ बंहदार कुर्सी)

rocking chair (दोलन या झूली कुर्सी)

car chair (बच्चों के लिए कार में प्रयॊग होने वाली कुर्सी)

swivel chair (घूमनेवाली कुर्सी जो साधारणतयः offices में पायी जाती है)

lounger (लम्बी आरामकुर्सी)

wheel chair (पहियेदार कुर्सी, जो व्यक्ति चलने में असमर्थ हो, उसके लिए ये कुर्सियां लाभकारी है)

recliners (विश्राम करानेवाली कुर्सी an armchair whose back can be lowered and foot can be raised to allow the sitter to recline in it)

high chair ( ऊँची कुर्सी - छोटे बच्चों को बैठा कर खाना खिलाने के लिए)

chaise lounge (आराम कुर्सी)

sofa (सोफा - इसे couch भी कहते हैं)

deck chair (डेक कुर्सी या folding chair)

bench (बेंच -  जो प्रायः parks में देखने को मिलती है)

director's chair (निर्देशक की कुर्सी)

stool (स्टूल या मचिया)

रंगों का प्रयॊग बहुत तरह से किया जा सकता है। अभी इस प्रचंड गर्मी को देखते हुए, हमारे लिए ये आवश्यक है कि समय समय पर सरकार द्वारा जारी की गई चेतावनियों (alerts) को सही से समझें। ये alerts रंगों के नाम पर issue किये जाते हैं। आइए इन्हें भी जानें और समझें -

Red Weather Alert:

Red: Take action

Red Weather Alert बहुत कम ही issue किये जाते हैं। Red Alert Weather is life threatening. इसका तातपर्य है कि अब कुछ कड़े actions लेने का समय आ गया है और अपने आप को extreme weather से बचाए। मौसम के impact से बचें, चाहे तो कुछ समय के लिए उस जगह से चले जाएं जहाँ RED ALERT जारी किया गया है ।

Yellow Weather Alert:

Yellow: Be aware

Yellow Weather Alerts का मतलब है कि मौसम काफी असुविधाजनक होगा कि आपको अपनी जगह बदलनी पड़ सकती है। In other words, Yellow means nuisance weather events that still have an impact on your daily routine.

YELLOW level weather alerts उन लोगों को सूचित करना और उन्हें निवारक कार्रवाई करने की अनुमति देना है, जो अपने स्थान या गतिविधि के कारण जोखिम में हैं। यह सामान्य आबादी के लिए तत्काल खतरा नहीं है, लेकिन उन लोगों के लिए जो अपने स्थान या गतिविधि के कारण उस जगह पर है, उनके लिए जोखिम भरा हो सकता है।

Orange Weather Alert:

Orange: Be Prepared

इस alert में खराब मौसम से आपके प्रभावित होने की संभावना है, जो संभावित रूप से आपकी योजनाओं को बाधित कर सकता है। यह alert संभवतः यात्रा मे देरी, सड़क और रेल बंद होने, बिजली के रुकावट और जीवन और संपत्ति के संभावित जोखिम का कारण बन सकता है।

Green Weather Alert:

Your outdoor plans are safe. Enjoy.

dead heat - a competition in which two or more competitors finish at exactly the same time or with exactly the same result (मुकाबले के परिणाम में बराबरी का या बहुत कम फर्क होना)

The race ended in a dead heat. (दौड़ का परिणाम बराबरी पर समाप्त हो गया।)

beat the heat - to find ways of staying cool and comfortable in very warm weather (गर्म मौसम में शांत और आरामदायक रहने के तरीके खोजना)

The best part of summer vacation is having all that ice cream to help beat the heat. (गर्मी की छुट्टी का सबसे अच्छा भाग गर्मी को भागने की लिए बहुत सी आइसक्रीम खाना है।)

heat wave - a period or days during which the weather is much hotter than usual (गर्मी की लहर)

Rajasthan is full of heat waves during May and June. (मई और जून के दौरान राजस्थान गर्मी की लहरों से भरा होता है।)

catch heat - to be the target of someone's anger (किसी के गुस्से का निशाना बनना)

If I fail this exam, I'm really going to catch heat from my parents. (अगर मैं इस परीक्षा में असफल होता हूं, तो मैं वास्तव में अपने माता-पिता के गुस्से का निशाना बनूँगा।)

be in hot water – to be in a lot of trouble (बहुत सी मुसीबतों में होना)

He found himself in hot water over his comments about immigration. (उसने आप्रवासन पर अपनी टिप्पणियों के कारण अपने आप को बहुत सी मुसीबतों में पाया।)

heat someone up -  to make someone angry (किसी को गुस्सा दिलाना)

hot off the press – very recent, as in a news story (हाल ही में, समाचार के रूप में)
