अंग्रेज़ी में बहुत से शब्द ऐसे हैं जिनका प्रयोग हम अनावश्यक तरीके से हर जगह करते हैं। ऐसा नहीं है कि वे शब्द गलत हैं पर उन शब्दों की जगह अन्य शब्द उन feelings को अधिक प्रभावशाली तरीके से बता सकते है। कई बार हम VERY शब्द का प्रयोग बहुत से adjectives के साथ करते हैं, अपनी भाषा को प्रभावशाली बनाने के लिए उन शब्दों की जगह (VERY + adjective) हम अन्य शब्द भी प्रयोग कर सकते हैं। जैसे -

'Too bad' का अर्थ है means regrettable (पछतावा करने योग्य) या unfortunate (दुर्भाग्य).  वाक्य में इसका प्रयॊग जो कार्य हो चुका है, उसके लिए अपनी चिंता या खेद जताने के लिए किया जाता है। हो सकता है वह घटना आपके साथ घटित हुई हो, जिससे आप बात कर रहे हैं - उनके साथ या किसी अन्य व्यक्ति के साथ जो बातचीत के समय वहां उपलब्ध ना हो। जैसे -

a priori: निगमनात्मक/ पहले से (based on theoretical deduction from previous facts or experiences)

These are a priori assumptions about human nature. (ये मानवीय स्वभाव के बारे में पहले से ही पूर्वानुमान हैं।)

au fait:  अभ्यस्त/ जानकार/ के प्रति सचेत (to be up-to-date and well-acquainted with something/ possessing considerable or intimate knowledge of something)

You should be au fait with the company and its products. (आपको कंपनी और उसके उत्पादों के प्रति सचेत होना चाहिए।)

par excellence: सर्वोत्कृष्ट (the very best, surpassing all others)

persona non grata:  अस्वीकार्य या अवांछित व्यक्ति (a person who is not welcome)

Duryodhana was persona non grata for the regime. (दुर्योधन शासन के लिए अवांछित व्यक्ति था।)

post-mortem: शव-परीक्षा (an examination of a dead body to determine the cause of death or an event after its occurrence to find out why it failed)

The hospital authorities want to carry out a post-mortem. (अस्पताल के अधिकारी शव परीक्षण करवाना चाहते हैं।)

prima facie: प्रत्यक्ष/ प्रथम दृष्टि में/ पहली नज़र में सच मान लेना  (at first sight/ accepted as true until proved otherwise)

They had, prima facie, a legitimate complaint. (उनकी प्रथम नजर में, उनकी एक वैध शिकायत थी।)

They have prima facie evidence. (उनके पास पहली नज़र में सच मान लेने वाले सबूत है।)
