COLD TURKEY

Meaning: It refers to any abrupt termination of something we are accustomed to.( किसी लम्बे समय की आदत या कार्य को अचानक छोड़ देना)
‘Cold turkey’ का प्रयोग ज़्यादातर तब किया जाता है जब हम किसी प्रकार के नशे की आदत को छोड़ने की बात करते हैं।
यदि एक व्यक्ति अपनी नशे की आदत को धीरे-धीरे बदलने की बजाय अचानक और एकदम से छोड़ दे तो हम उसे कहेंगे ‘to quit cold turkey’

Origin: It is believed that during the process of drug withdrawal, a person’s body gets pale which somehow resembles a cold turkey. So, this phrase is predominantly used for the person who has abruptly quit some kind of drug addiction.

Uses:

• After his father died of lung cancer, David stopped smoking cold turkey.( अपने पिता की lung cancer से मृत्यु होने के बाद, David ने एकदम से smoking की आदत को छोड़ दिया।)
  
  यदि आप एक लम्बे समय से किसी दवा का सेवन करने के आदि हैं और अचानक किन्ही कारणों से उसे लेना बंद कर दें, तब जो symptoms या changes आते हैं, उन्हें भी इस phrase के माध्यम से refer किया जाता है।
  
  
• I know that it’s necessary but I’m afraid that stopping the medicine altogether may result in cold turkey. ( मै जानता हूँ की यह आवश्यक है लेकिन दवा को अचानक पूरी तरह से बंद करने के दुष्परिणाम हो सकते हैं।)

high road: परिणाम प्राप्त करने के लिए एक आसान या निश्चित तरीका / कुछ नैतिक या महान करना (an easy or sure course to achieve a result/ do something ethical or noble)

He chose the high road to get happiness. (उसने खुशी पाने के लिए आसान रास्ता चुना।)

The company took the high road, announcing it would extend the benefits to all its workers. (कंपनी ने नैतिक कार्य किया, घोषणा की कि वह उसके सभी श्रमिकों को लाभ देगी।)

on the right track: सही रास्ते पर (in progress toward the desired result)

You haven't quite got the answer yet, but you're on the right track. (आपको अभी तक जवाब नहीं मिला है, लेकिन आप सही रास्ते पर हैं।)

on the wrong track: गलत रास्ते पर (misdirected)

If you suspect my son was involved, you are on the wrong track. (यदि आपको संदेह है कि मेरा बेटा शामिल था, तो आप गलत रास्ते पर हैं।)

road hog: एक ड्राइवर जो दूसरों को रास्ता नहीं देता/ लापरवाह चालक (a driver who does not allow other motorists to pass/ someone who drives carelessly)

DTC Bus drivers are complete road hogs, they don't allow anybody to overtake them. (डीटीसी बस चालकों को पूरी तरह से रोड हॉग हैं, वे किसी को भी उनसे आगे निकलने की अनुमति नहीं देते हैं।)

road show: राजनीतिक या फिर किसी चीज के प्रचार-प्रसार के लिए प्रदर्शन (a promotional tour, as for political campaigning; originally referred to travelling theatrical productions and similar entertainments)

Nowadays every party is relying on road show rather than door to door campaign. (आज कल हर पार्टी द्वार-द्वार अभियान की बजाय सड़क शो पर निर्भर है।)

one-track mind: एक ही लीक पर चलने वाला दिमाग (having a narrow focus)

I wasn't talking about money - you have a one-track mind! (मैं पैसे के बारे में बात नहीं कर रहा था - आपके पास एक ही लीक पर चलने वाला दिमाग है!)
