Common verbs that can only be followed by the “-ing form”, not the “to infinitive”

Admit: They admitted changing the schedule. (उन्होंने कार्यक्रम बदलने में बात मानी।)

[Wrong: to change]

Advise : The police advises moving forward with caution. (पुलिस सावधानी के साथ आगे बढ़ने की सलाह देती हैं।)

[Wrong: to move]

Appreciate: She finally appreciated having a lovely family. (अंत में उसने एक सुंदर परिवार होने की सराहना की।)

[Wrong: to have]

Avoid: She avoided looking me in the eye. (वह मेरी आँखों में दिखने से बचा रही थी।)

[Wrong: to look]

Consider (think about): I considered staying out of this matter. (मैंने इस मामले से बाहर रहने का विचार किया।)

[Wrong: to stay]

Deny: They denied knowing about his secret. (उन्होंने उसके रहस्य के बारे में जानने से इनकार किया।)

[Wrong: to know]

Delay: I delayed doing any rectification. (मैंने कोई भी संशोधन करने में देरी की।)

[Wrong: to do]

Dislike: I dislike watching horror movies at night. (मुझे रात में हॉरर फिल्में देखना नापसंद है।)

Hotspot – लोकप्रिय जगह (a very popular place)

The new restaurant is the latest hot spot in town. (नया रेस्तरां शहर का नया लोकप्रिय स्थान है।)

Hotheaded – क्रोधी (easy to anger)

She’s quite hotheaded; whenever someone makes a little mistake, she yells at them.  (वह काफी क्रोधी है; जब भी कोई छोटी गलती करता है, वह उस  पर चिल्लाती है।)

Full of hot air – बकवास से भरा; बकवास करना (full of nonsense; talking nonsense)

That man is full of hot air; don’t believe anything he says. वह आदमी बकवास करता है; वह जो भी कहता है उस पर विश्वास मत करना।

Hot-button issue – an issue that causes strong disagreement (ऐसा मुद्दा जो मजबूत असहमति का कारण बनता है)

H1B visa new norms have become a hot-button issue in all over the world. (एच1बी वीजा के नए मानदंड पूरे विश्व में एक मजबूत असहमति का कारण (हॉट-बटन इश्यू) बन गया है।)

Hot topic – महत्वपूर्ण और  लोकप्रिय विषय (a subject that’s very important or popular at the moment)

Demonetization is the hot topic in this election. (विमुद्रीकरण इस चुनाव में सबसे महत्वपूर्ण और  लोकप्रिय विषय है।)

Satisfied (Adjective): संतुष्ट (filled with satisfaction)

The President declared herself satisfied with the progress of the talks. (राष्ट्रपति ने खुद को वार्ता की प्रगति से संतुष्ट घोषित किया।)

Some people are never satisfied! (कुछ लोग कभी भी संतुष्ट नहीं होते!)

Synonyms

happy: satisfied that something is good or right, and therefore not worried about it

Are you happy with the arrangement? (आप व्यवस्था से संतुष्ट हैं?)

pleased: happy and satisfied with the way something has happened or turned out

We were very pleased to hear of your engagement. (हम आपकी सगाई की ख़बर सुन कर बहुत संतुष्ट थे।)

content: happy and satisfied with your life or with a situation, and not wanting to change it

She is quite content to live on her own. (वह अपने दम पर रह कर काफी संतुष्ट है।)

contented: happy and satisfied with your life

I can’t imagine a more contented couple. (मैं इनसे और अधिक संतुष्ट दंपति की कल्पना नहीं कर सकता।)

fulfilled: happy and satisfied because you are doing something important or using your abilities

I am confident in this role and feel fulfilled. (मुझे इस भूमिका में पूरा भरोसा है और संतुष्ट महसूस कर रहा हूँ।)
