COUCH POTATO

एक आलसी व्यक्ति जो शारीरिक गतिविधि के बजाय एक जगह बैठना पसंद करता है, आमतौर पर टीवी देखने के लिए

• I do not like men who are couch potatoes; I would love a person who likes adventure in life. (मुझे आलसी पुरुष पसंद नहीं; मैं किसी ऐसे इंसान को पसंद करुँगी जो जीवन में रोमांच पसंद करता हो।)

TWO PEAS IN A POD

यह तब use किया जाता है जब दो चीजें बहुत समान हों या जब दो लोग एक-दूसरे के बहुत करीब होते हैं

• Joe and his wife are so compatible in their likes-dislikes that they are like two peas in a pod. (Joe और उसकी पत्नी की पसन्द-नापसंद इतनी सुसंगत हैं कि मानो वे एक समान हों।)

IN A PICKLE

परेशानी, कठिनाई या शर्मिंदगी की स्थिति में होना

• First, he took his father’s car without permission and now he has got himself in a pickle. (पहले तो वह अनुमति के बिना अपने पिता की गाड़ी ले गया और अब वह परेशानी में पड़ गया है।)

TO DANGLE A CARROT (in front of someone)

किसी से कुछ काम कराने के लिए उसे प्रलोभन देना यानि किसी चीज़ के लिए ललचाना

• All you have to do is dangle a carrot in front of him and he will come back immediately. (आपको बस इतना करना है कि उसे कुछ प्रलोभन देना है और वह तुरंत वापस आ जाएगा।)

FULL OF BEANS

अत्यंत उत्साहित व जीवंत हो जाना या हमेशा खुश रहना

•  The children were full of beans today, looking forward to their field trip. (आज बच्चे अपनी क्षेत्र यात्रा को लेकर बहुत उत्सुक थे।)

यूँ तो confused होना एक बहुत ही common feeling है पर इस feeling की intensity अलग-अलग situations में different हो सकती है:

PERPLEXED - हैरान
Used when one simply cannot understand or make sense of something

BAFFLED - चकराया हुआ/ चकित
Used when a confusion surprises you quite intensely and you just can’t figure out what’s going on.

BEWILDERED - हक्का बक्का/ घबराया हुआ
At times, inability to understand something might lead to an intense form of confusion where one might feel frightened and that’s when we use this term

DAZED - स्तब्ध/ चौंधिया जाना
Used when someone is in a state of mental numbness especially as resulting from shock or bad news.

DISORIENTED - गुमराह
When confusion leads to a state where one might lose one’s sense of direction where to go or what to do.

At sea - Puzzled, perplexed, or completely confused (about a subject or some task at hand)
• I tried to do well in this class, but I've been at sea since we started. (मैंने इस कक्षा में अच्छा करने की कोशिश की, लेकिन जब से हमने शुरू किया तब से मैं घबराया हुआ हूँ।)

(All) balled up - troubled, confused, in a mess
• Anuj is all balled up because his car was stolen. (अनुज पूरी तरह से परेशान और उलझन में है क्योंकि उसकी कार चोरी हो गई थी।)

At a loss - totally perplexed
• She became popular and was at a loss to know why. (वह लोकप्रिय हो गई, और पूरी तरह से व्यग्र थी जानने के लिए कि क्यों।)

Zone out - fall asleep or lose concentration or consciousness.
• I sensed the class was zoning out, so I started talking louder. (मुझे लगा कि कक्षा एकाग्रता खो रही थी, इसलिए मैंने ज़ोर से बात करना शुरू कर दिया।)
