Affect and Effect

Affect (to influence) -- एक verb (क्रिया) है जिसका अर्थ है "प्रभावित करना" (to have an impact on). To affect मतलब किसी को प्रभावित करना या बदलना।

“Will the new rules affect me?” (क्या नए नियम मुझे प्रभावित करेंगे?)

Effect (result) एक noun है जिसका अर्थ है - प्रभाव पड़ना। Effect किसी कार्य का परिणाम है।

Your scoldings will have no effect on him. (आपकी डाँट का उस पर कोई प्रभाव नहीं पड़ेगा।)

Eg.

RIGHT: The criticism of his behaviour had a really negative effect on him.

(WRONG: The criticism of his behaviour had a really negative affect on him.)

RIGHT: The criticism of his behaviour didn’t really affect him.

(WRONG: The criticism of his behaviour didn’t really effect him.)

"You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink."

इस कहावत का अर्थ है कि आप किसी को अवसर प्रदान करवा सकते हैं, पर अवसर का प्रयोग करना उस व्यक्ति के ऊपर निर्भर है। माता - पिता अपने बच्चों को अच्छा भविष्य देने के लिए उन्हें अच्छे स्कूलों में, कोचिंग सेंटर्स में भेज सकते हैं, पर बच्चा पढ़ेगा या नहीं यह केवल उस बच्चे पर ही निर्भर है। कोई आपके मुंह तक भोजन ला सकता है, आपको खिला भी देगा, परन्तु उसे चबाना और निगलना सिर्फ आपके हाथ में हैं। आप किसी को कार्य करने के लिए या आपकी मदद लेने के लिए मजबूर नहीं कर सकते।

यह कहा जा सकता है कि एक व्यक्ति की मदद की जा सकती है परन्तु काम करने की चाह और प्रेरणा व्यक्ति के स्वयं के अंदर से होनी चाहिए। अन्यथा सभी ज्ञान और संसाधन बेकार है। सफलता सिर्फ संसाधनों के उब्लब्ध होने पर नहीं मिलती अपितु आपकी इच्छा शक्ति से मिलती है।

Back out - मुँह मोड़ लेना/ पीछे हटना - You can't back out of your responsibilities. (आप अपनी जिम्मेदारियों से मुकर नहीं सकते।)

Back up - समर्थन करना/ सहायता - The rest of the staff backed her up when she complained about working conditions. (बाकी सभी स्टाफ ने उसका समर्थन किया जब उसने काम करने की स्थिति के बारे में शिकायत की।)

Bear down - जबरदस्ती दबा देना - The dictator bore down all his oppositions. (तानाशाह ने अपने सभी विपक्षियों को दबा दिया।)

Bear out - साबित करना/ समर्थन करना - These all evidences bear out his robbery charges. (ये सभी सबूत उसकी डकैती के आरोपों का समर्थन करता है।)

Bear with - बर्दाश्त करना - It is really difficult to bear with her arrogance. (उसके अहंकार को बर्ताश्त करना बहुत मुश्किल है।)

Don’t know whether to wind a watch or bark at the moon - जब पता ना हो कि क्या करना है

Eleventh hour - अंतिम क्षण में

Crunch time - मुश्किल समय

Just in time ( In the nick of time) - सही समय पर

As time goes by - जैसे समय बीतता जाता है

Time is money - समय ही धन है

Time for a change - बदलाव का समय

Come of age - लायक हो जाना
