A row of houses (घरों की पंक्ति)

A quiver/ sheaf of arrows (तीरों का एक तरकश)

हम किसी के personal taste (with regards to possessions) जैसे कि उनके घर, वस्तु इत्यादि की तारीफ़ कर सकते हैं जिनसे उन्हें अच्छा लगे। अंग्रेज़ी में कुछ इस तरह हम अपने विचार व्यक्त कर सकते हैं -

Compliments on possessions (संपत्ति पर प्रशंसा)

You have a beautiful home. (आपका घर सुंदर है।)

You have such a cozy home. (आपका घर बहुत ही आरामदायक घर है।)

I have to admit I'm jealous of your lovely garden. (मैं मानता हूँ कि मुझे आपके सुंदर बगीचे से थोड़ी ईर्ष्या है।)

That is such a pretty sweater. (यह बहुत ही सुन्दर स्वेटर हैं।)

These sunglasses really suit you. (ये धूप के चश्में आप पर सच में जँच रहे हैं।)

That’s such a pretty scarf. You have great taste. (यह बहुत ही सुन्दर स्कार्फ़ है। आपकी पसंद बहुत अच्छी है।)

What a nice bike! Where’d you get it? (कितनी सुन्दर बाइक है! यह आपने कहाँ से ली ?)

लोगों की तारीफ़ करने का कोई भी मौका हमें छोड़ना नहीं चाहिए चाहे तारीफ उनकी कोई चीज़, उनके physical appearance, talent या performance की ही क्यों ना करें। हमारे कुछ शब्द उन्हें उत्साहित कर सकते हैं और सकारात्मक परिणाम भी दे सकते हैं। कुछ ऐसे ही वाक्यांश सीखते हैं जो अलग अलग परिस्थितियों में Compliments देने के लिए प्रयॊग होती है -

Compliments on personal qualities (व्यक्तिगत गुणों की प्रशंसा)

You are such an amazing person! (आप एक अद्भुत व्यक्ति हैं!)

I really appreciate how organized you are. (मैं सच में प्रशंसा करती हूँ कि आप कितने व्यवस्थित हैं।)

You’re such a hard-working person. I admire you. (आप एक बहुत ही परिश्रमी व्यक्ति हैं। मैं आपका प्रशंसक हूं।)

I admire your ability to think. (मैं आपके सोचने की क्षमता की प्रशंसा करता हूँ।)

Compliments on physical appearance (शारीरिक रूप-रंग/ भेष की प्रशंसा)

You have the nicest eyes. (आपकी सबसे अच्छी आँखें हैं।)

I like your haircut. (मुझे आपका हेअरकट अच्छा लगा।)

You look absolutely fantastic. (तुम बिल्कुल शानदार दिखते हो।)

You look quite dapper. (आप थोड़े ठाट-बाट वाले लगते है।)

You’re very handsome/beautiful. (आप बहुत ही सुन्दर है।)

(Handsome is used for men while we use beautiful for women.)

Common verbs that can only be followed by the “-ing form”, not the “to infinitive”

Enjoy: I enjoy playing with small children. (मुझे छोटे बच्चों के साथ खेलना पसंद है)

[Wrong : I enjoy to play with small children.]

Give-up: You must give up drinking. (आपको शराब पीना जरूर छोड़ देना चाहिए।)

[Wrong: to drink]

Miss: I miss having fun at my granny's house. (मैं अपने दादी के घर पर मज़े की कमी महसूस कर रही हूँ।)

[Wrong: to have]

Postpone: I have postponed meeting the doctor. (मैंने चिकित्सक के साथ मीटिंग स्थगित कर दी है।)

[Wrong: to meet]

Suggest : I suggest reading more English newspaper. (मैं और अधिक अंग्रेजी अखबार पढ़ने का सुझाव देती हूँ।)

[Wrong: to read]

Involve : The course involves writing three tests. (पाठ्यक्रम में तीन लिखित परीक्षण शामिल है।)

[Wrong: to write]

Mention  (say something): She mentioned seeing the robbers at night. (उसने रात में लुटेरों को देखने का उल्लेख किया।)

[Wrong: to see]
