Dim sum - A Chinese-style dish (चीनी शैली का एक तरह का पकवान)

Feng shui - (feng-wind, shui-water)Denotes an object which is aesthetically balanced (generally used in construction or design)

Lychee - a kind of fruit (लीची)

Kung fu - a Chinese martial art (कंग फ़ू)

Pekoe - a superior grade of black tea (उच्च गुणवत्ता वाली काली चाय)

Tofu - A soft white substance made from mashed soya beans (सोयाबीन का पनीर/ टोफू)

When it comes to Brand names, we all have a tendency to mispronounce them. Not that we can’t say the correct pronunciation, but since these brand names come from a totally different language, somehow we twist their pronunciation according to our first language.

Every language has it’s own pronunciation of English alphabets, for example:
• In Spanish, alphabet A is always pronounced as in the English word CAR.
• Germans pronounce their W as English letter V.

Gung Ho - Unthinkingly enthusiastic and eager, especially about taking part in fighting or warfare (अति उत्साही)

Kowtow - bend the knees and bow in a servile manner (घुटने के बल झुक कर प्रणाम करना/ प्रणाम करना)

‘Aqua-’ एक Latin शब्द हैं जिसका सम्बन्ध water (पानी) से होता है। इसका प्रयॊग prefix की तरह किया जाता है। अगर Aqua का अर्थ पता है तो अन्य शब्दों के अर्थ याद करना बहुत ही आसान है। दिए गए सभी शब्द किसी ना किसी तरह पानी से सम्बंधित है। ऐसे ही कुछ शब्द देखें -

Aqueduct -  कृत्रिम जल सेतु (a channel that carries large amounts of water)

Aquarium -  मछलीघर/ जलजीवालय (an artificial pond or tank of water where live water animals and water plants are kept)

Aquaplane - जलविमान (a wide board that is towed by a motorboat, like a single water ski)

Aquatic - जलजन्तु/ पानी का पौधा (growing or living in water)

Aquamarine - नीलहरित रंग (a pale blue to light greenish blue)

Aquanaut - अनावृत गोताखोर (a scuba diver)
