National Dictionary Day (राष्ट्रीय शब्दकोश दिवस) प्रतिवर्ष 16 अक्टूबर को मनाया जाता है। Dictionary Day नूह वेबस्टर (Noah Webster - October 16, 1758), जिन्हें अमेरिकी शब्दकोश का जन्मदाता माना जाता है, के सम्मान में मनाया जाता है।
1806 में, Noah Webster ने अपनी पहली dictionary प्रकाशित की। 1807 में Webster ने अपनी dictionary का विस्तार किया और पूरी तरह से एक व्यापक अंग्रेजी भाषा के शब्दकोश का संकलन शुरू कर दिया; इसे पूरा करने में सत्ताईस साल लग गए। शब्द की व्युत्पत्ति (etymology) का मूल्यांकन करने के लिए, Webster ने पुरानी अंग्रेज़ी (एंग्लो-सैक्सन), जर्मन, ग्रीक, लैटिन, जर्मन, स्पेनिश, फ्रेंच, हिब्रू, अरबी और संस्कृत सहित छब्बीस भाषाएँ सीखीं।

Today, we give you a list of few newly added words in English Dictionary in year 2016 -
aiyah (Expression commonly used by Asian or sub-Asian people to mean "sigh," "oh man...,")
aiyoh (Oh No!, Oh Dear!)
focality (The quality of having a central point of origin.)
gender-fluid (a person who does not identify with a single fixed gender')
lolo (crazy)
moobs (Unusually prominent breasts on a man (likened to those of a woman), typically as a result of excess pectoral fat.)
squee (Representing a high-pitched squealing or squeaking sound produced by an animal, musical instrument, etc.)
tito (saved - The name Tito is a Latin baby name. The proest name on Earth. Anyone and everyone with that name is amazingly cool and should never ever be disrespected.. Ever.)
yolo (means - you only live once)
yoda (A person who embodies the characteristics of Yoda, esp. in being wise; an elder, sage or guru.)
“Everybody are happy.”
Words like everybody, somebody, anybody, nobody are actually singular, not plural. इन सभी शब्दों के साथ singular verb का प्रयॊग होता है।सही वाक्य होगा “Everybody is happy.”
“I’ll explain you the problem.”
इस वाक्य में दो objects (विषय) है - the problem (direct object) और you (indirect object). अधिकांश समय direct object पहले और indirect object उसके बाद लगता है जिसे 'to' से जोड़ा जाता है - “I’ll explain the problem to you.” अन्य शब्दों में indirect object से पहले "to" का प्रयॊग किया जाता है।
“I have the possibility to work in US next year.”
“have” के साथ हम opportunity शब्द का प्रयॊग करते हैं possibility का नहीं। अतः सही वाक्य होगा - “I have the opportunity to study in US next year.” possibility शब्द का प्रयॊग सामान्यतः “There is…” के साथ होता है। जैसे - “There’s a possibility I may study in US next year.”
“You have made a blunder mistake.”
यह वाक्य गलत है क्योंकि वास्तव में इसका अर्थ है - "You have made a mistake mistake.” सही वाक्य होगा - "You have made a mistake” या "You have made a blunder”. इन दोनों शब्दों का अर्थ मूलतः समान है पर इनका प्रयॊग एक ही वाक्य में नहीं हो सकता।
“She is doing more better.”
'better' स्वयं comparative degree है। अतः दुबारा comparative degree शब्द (more) के एक ही वाक्य में प्रयॊग करने का कोई औचित्य नहीं है। सही होगा - “She is doing better.”

addendum : an item or items added (परिशिष्ट/ जोड़ी हुई वस्तु)

ad hoc: arranged or done (अनौपचारिक) without pre-planning (बिना किसी योजना के)
All the decisions in this matter are ad hoc. (इस मामले में सभी निर्णय अनौपचारिक हैं।)
ad nauseam: to the point of annoyance or disgust (घृणास्पद होने तक)
He repeated the phrase till ad nauseam. (उसने घृणास्पद होने तक बारंबार वाक्यांश दोहराया।)
aide-memoire: something that serves as a reminder (सहयोगी पत्र)/ a memorandum (पत्र)
These photos later served as aide-memoires for the large decorative panels. (इन तस्वीरों ने बाद में बड़े सजावटी पैनलों के लिए सहयोगी-पत्र के रूप में कार्य किया।)
a la carte: a menu of dishes that may be ordered separately (व्यंजन सूची से)
The Hansraj hotel has only an a la carte menu. (हंसराज होटल में केवल एक व्यंजन सूची से है।)
a la mode: in the fashion (प्रचलित)/ served with ice cream( आइस-क्रीम के साथ - noun)
These types of jeans are a la mode now a days. (आज कल इस प्रकार की जीन्स प्रचलित है।)
